HC BAND Update 7-25-20

Dear Band Family,

I hope all are well and have had a great summer. Mr. Bayerle and I have had numerous difficult discussions throughout the past few months considering all options as we move forward as a program and want to relay to all that we remain committed and flexible to offering whatever experience may be possible for our band students. With the surge in recent cases, the plan to start virtually in FCPS, the cancellation of numerous circuits, and the current restrictions and phases still in place and not likely to lift in the immediate future, we will be suspending all HC band rehearsals (MB Camp dates) for the foreseeable future until we are able to meet safely.

We will develop a plan for all HC Band school year classes once the district releases the NTI structure we will follow. We WILL still offer ADV Marching Band class and will engage the students in other activities and depending upon when we can safely rehearse in groups, we’ll structure any band experience we can safely manage. We will have to remain flexible and fluid as our situation changes daily and weekly.

While the HC marching band won’t have its regular season as we have known it, we know that the core of our program is building a culture of “family.” We understand that developing life skills, positive work habits, leadership skills, along with giving ourselves as individuals to a high-functioning group production or purpose much bigger than ourselves, are all valuable processes for student growth and a worthy cause indeed. We often speak of service to one another in our student leadership, so in the meantime, we can take care of each other and adhere to all professional medical advice using masks, social distancing, and proper sanitation, etc.

I am still hopeful we may see students in person in the coming months depending upon how well we work together and progress as a community!

To those parents and alumni who have sacrificed greatly and successfully started up and are working Bingo again to help our band program continue to function, THANK YOU! I know there are great measures being taken for those to work safely to support the program. If any parents are willing and able to help, I know our dedicated family of parents could use the support and your help.

I will update again when we get guidance on the specifics and details for beginning school. I hope all stay well and join me in remaining optimistic for our progress in the near future.

Sincerely,

Bill Kite
