Dear HC Band Family,
I hope all are well. There is a good deal of work happening behind the scenes at the moment so I will try to relay any info on updates:
1.) I spoke to Taylor Tours rep, Ron Roth yesterday on the phone and the Disney refund is on its way to their office. Lakefront bus company has not gotten back to them and closed most of their offices leaving only one open in Cleveland. There is a chance they’re going out of business. I have told the folks at Taylor Tours to go ahead and reimburse our members as much as they can with Disney money coming in and then if we can get the bus money later (assuming Lakefront is still in business and able to return money) to do a follow up reimbursement. Currently, Ron said the travel per person was roughly $300 so I’m guessing the refund will be around $1,000 per person in the near future. Again, we will do our best and be in communication on the status of the Lakefront Bus Company, but I figured most would want the majority of their refund back now. I will keep you updated and do my best to get everyone a full refund. Thank you for your patience.
2.) There is work at the local, state, and district levels on how to safely reopen our schools and start activities like marching band, athletics, etc. back up. They are in a transparent process and asking for advice from the various areas. I am trying to help them currently with the marching band side and will keep you posted on confirmed developments that become regulation. They are trying to work quickly, but also are being cautious as the situation is obviously fluid. Yesterday, we received the below communication from the district:
·Band must use 10 person or fewer groupings for the June 15-28 period
·Must be outdoors
·Must be at least 10 feet apart for instruments with higher aerosol spray (10 feet is greater than the normal 6 foot recommendation)
·Dead period of June 25th-July 9th has been set aside for 2020
We don’t do band activities during this time anyway, but this is at least progress! We are still holding out that we will be able to have band camp in mid-July of some kind…it probably would be modified quite a bit…but there is a glimmer of hope.
Currently, band camp is STILL SCHEDULED for:

Sunday, July 19: Pre-camp meeting at 6:00 PM
Week 1: Mon. July 20 through Fri. July 24, 8:00 AM-9:00 PM (for all members including color guard, woodwinds, brass, all percussion)
Week 2: Mon. July 26 through Fri. July 31, 8:00 AM-6:00 (for all members)
Week 3: Mon. Aug. 3 through Fri. Aug. 7, 8:00 AM-6:00 PM (for all members)
3.) I’m double checking all guard uniform measurements, am waiting on 1 confirmation and then will send them off for processing. Thanks to our guard family for your quick attention to detail and getting this together!
4.) Mr. Bayerle and I will be in the high school building again on Mon. June 8th to do INSTRUMENT RENTAL for new members and any last turn ins from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
5.) I will be sending a separate email with the zoom link to attend our Virtual Band Banquet next Monday, June 8th at 7:00 PM and then a follow up on the morning of the event.
