Dear Band Family,
Wow! What a weekend! Sorry for the delay in getting my usual recap and schedule out…it has been a wild week.
Thanks to the army of parent volunteers who made the trip to Muncie, IN over the weekend a huge success! Our band family is a joy and an honor to work with and has done an outstanding job organizing the logistics of our season. To wrap up the Central Indiana Bands of America Regional Championship, our students performed wonderfully during the preliminary performance at 9:15 AM Saturday and earned a place in the evening finals competition! The band was in the 9th spot heading out of preliminary competition with a score of 68.8 and for the second BOA Regional in a row was the earliest band selected for finals with the HCMB score holding for more than 6 hours of competition yet again! We finished finals in 10th place with a score of 69.65. Please remember, the scoring range is relative to the competition of the given week and there isn’t necessarily a correlation week to week even though we are pushing to increase the number throughout the season through higher levels of achievement.
The students did a wonderful job in finals and performed beautifully despite some equipment issues leading to all of the side 1 solo mics and boom field mics cutting out of the overall mix presenting a variety of ensemble balance issues up top. The ensemble and music effect scores definitely took a hit due to our electronic issues, but we have since resolved the issue and are putting a plan into place with extra checks to be sure we have time and are setup properly in the future. I was very proud of our students for ignoring distractions and events beyond their control and following through with a great performance anyway! For those of the us on the field, we saw and heard a great finals performance with tremendous energy, heart, and character!
As we move forward in our season, we only have 2 1/2 weeks left before getting a once in a lifetime opportunity to perform in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at the Bands of America Indianapolis Super Regional. We have not had an experience like this super regional which consists of 2 days of performances from 86 different band programs including a number of grand national finalists and semi finalists in the mix! We will compete with the best of the best in the nation and get a chance to support many other excellent programs in the activity as well.
Please understand that we only have 10 rehearsals left in the season and are still in the process of refining, adding, and adjusting our production to maximize the potential of this show! Every rep counts! We have 4 more public performances before Indy and need to make the most of each of them.
Final full production performances (in full uniform and all equipment) of the season include:
