Dear MB Family,
What a fantastic day on Saturday! To recap the events of the day, the HC band performed at the Bands of America Kentucky Regional Championship in Louisville at Cardinal Stadium in a field of 28 bands from approximately 7-8 different states including the defending national champion from Carmel, IN and several other national finalists and semifinalists. HC finished preliminary competition 4th in class 3A and 8th overall with a score of 70.4 and was selected to the evening final consisting of the top 10 scores regardless of class from the preliminary competition! The kids had a spectacular evening Finals performance and finished the contest in 7th place overall with a score of 71.55! Many of the judges noted the progress from the day to the night show and commented on the focus and energy in finals. It was an honor to compete with some of the best bands in the nation and share the field with them in the closing ceremony.
Congratulations to our students on a wonderful day from start to finish! The students started the morning wide eyed and 100% ready at 5:45 AM and continued their enthusiasm through the finals ceremony 18 hours later! The staff and I were reflecting on the students’ progress and determination last week and I am hard pressed to find a more productive week in my 15 years at HC!
Lastly, a special thank you to our team of parents! This production would not be possible without their efforts behind the scenes to prepare every aspect of the travel and the equipment necessary to be successful. Our pit crew, hospitality, uniform, chaperone, communication, etc. teams are first class operations and essential to our band family organizational structure. The sacrifice and commitment made by our parents is astounding! A huge shout out and thank you personally to Cameron Beard, who after yet another semi-truck tire blowout on the way home and being stranded on the side of the road all night and into the morning, safely arrived home and returned the truck at 8:00 AM on Sunday morning 🙂 Cameron has selflessly committed himself to students, the program, and to the service for others for years and is a true example and model of the HC Band spirit!
Thanks to all of the families and friends who came out to support the band this past weekend. Your love and support means a great deal to the staff and students!
Please make note of the upcoming schedule on the calendar at www.henryclayband.org We have 2 very important weeks to try to finish our show and prepare for our next Bands of America national competition in Muncie, IN on Oct. 5th. The camp days over fall break next week will be vital pieces of the preparation process moving forward. We are thrilled with the students’ work and are excited to get back after it this afternoon!
I will send a detailed itinerary for the Muncie trip in the next couple days.
Thanks to you all for a wonderful journey so far! I’m excited to see these students continue to grow!
