Dear Band Family, I hope all are having a great spring as we busily wrap up a wonderful band year and prepare for an exciting new experience!
We held almost 50 leadership interviews on Tuesday afternoon leaving our staff with some difficult decisions concerning appointments for the HC Band Leadership team for the 2019-20 school year. A special “thank you” to all students who took the time to apply and go through the interview process. These students are developing a life skill necessary for success regardless of the desired outcome.
There are many excellent candidates who have a mature understanding of the kinds of qualities it takes to lead effectively. Unfortunately, we have limited roles in many cases and cannot provide everyone an opportunity to lead in their desired position immediately. It is of the utmost importance that all students and families understand that while we take our appointments very seriously, students do NOT need a title or appointed position on the band council to lead and for many their time has yet to come.
The most important part of the process of developing leadership is patience and clear, calculated work to improve the skills necessary for leadership and the understanding of how to build relationships with others.
We are ecstatic about the Henry Clay Band Family potential for next year! Congratulations to all! We look forward to getting to work on new projects and to finishing a spectacular year in the current program!
Thank you all for your commitment, dedication, and energy this year! We hope to see you all at the Pops Concert on Fri. May 17 and the Band Banquet on Mon. May 20!
Sincerely, Bill Kite Director of Bands Henry Clay High School
