Canton – snacks, photos, parking, tickets, pizza

Everyone:

For Canton this weekend, most kids will take some kind of bag on the bus. The drawstring bags or a backpack are good options. They are welcomed to bring snacks (for the bus and any down-time). Drinks need to have a screw-top lid. If they aren’t wearing a sweatshirt during rehearsal on Friday, they might want to throw one in their bag to have on the bus.

Huge thank you to the parents who are not making the trip to Canton and have volunteered to be at bingo on Saturday night! We really appreciate you taking care of things in Lexington.

Parents going to Canton:

Saturday’s competition is at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Due to the number of large bands and the space they require, parking at the stadium is extremely limited. If you get there early enough to park in the stadium lot there is no charge for parking. The Sales Director from SpringHill Suites has shared directions and his suggestion as to where we should park. See below. (They are given as if you are coming from the hotel. Adjust if necessary.)

During the competition, there is no videotaping. Still cameras, without tripods, can be used from the stands. Parents who are on the field cannot take pictures. BOA will have photographers on the field and will take a group photo after Prelims. After the competition we will be given a link to the BOA photos.

Tickets for the competition: Daypass: $27. If purchased separately, prelim and finals tickets are $18 each.

On Saturday, after Prelims the band will be moving to a grassy area close to the parking lot. We will be ordering pizza for the band, staff, chaperones and pit crew. The top 10 bands from prelims will move on to an evening performance. If we are top 10, we will not know our evening performance time until about 5:15. We could have anywhere from 3 to 5 hours between performances. The stadium will be cleared at 5:00 and will not re-open until 6:45 pm (so concessions will not be available). If you are not a part of the staff, chaperones and pit crew, you might want to consider your dinner plans now. You are welcome to come to the area where the band is. If you would like to order a pizza for your family (we’ll take care of the band members), drop $10 into the band box by end-of-practice on Wednesday and indicate your pizza choice: cheese, pepperoni, or sausage; put Lisa’s name on the envelope. (We are told a pizza will feed 3-4 people.)

Parking suggestion from the hotel Sales Director: Heading from the hotel to Tom Benson Stadium, go I-77 South to Exit #106, turn right off the exit at the exit light onto 13th St NW. Then go to first red light at Broad Ave…turn right onto Broad, Lehman Middle School will be on your right. From here you can turn right on any of the roads from 17th St NW to 21 St. NW, there is a large residential neighborhood with which to park in and walk to the stadium…or guests can also turn left on from 17th St NW to 21 St. NW if they want lower cost parking, but further walk. F.Y.I., parents can use Lehman Middle School address of, 1400 Broad Ave NW, Canton, OH 44708 as directions for their GPS to get them close to the the area where they can park….if that helps!
