Dear HC Band Family,
Welcome back! For our new families, welcome to the family! Mr. Bayerle and I are excited to begin the 2018-19 school year and to see what great experiences the year holds!
I wanted to pass along some first week schedule reminders starting on Day 1 for all of our band family.
Wed. August 15th
First Day of School! Students will NOT need instruments on the first day as we are on a shortened schedule due to homeroom and we will cover the class syllabus, commitment, and expectations. The students WILL need instruments from Day 2 on…every day, forever… 🙂
Jazz classes WILL meet at 7:30 AM in the band room on the first day! Anyone interested may attend whether you signed up for the class or not. We will cover placement auditions and all info for the year!

Zero hour 7:30 AM: Advanced Jazz classes
1st hour: Percussion
2nd hour: Symphonic Band
3rd hour: Advanced Percussion
4th hour: Wind Ensemble…we ALWAYS take 3rd lunch regardless of what is printed on Adv Band/Theory members’ schedules. Band students (only) may eat in the band room if they have 3rd lunch, but must bring lunch since the school does not allow students to bring food out of the cafeteria.
5th hour: Concert Band
Thurs. August 16th
Regular school day, but on a homeroom bell schedule….ALL students should bring instruments! We will begin taking care of instrument rentals. Note: We have school instruments for the big sections, but are limited. We typically do not have school flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets. We will try to accommodate everyone, however, our inventory is in need of an overhaul.
MB Rehearsal 3:45-6:15 PM
Fri. August 17th
Regular school day, but on a homeroom bell schedule
First HOME Football Game….ALL band students (marching and non) will perform in the stands.
Call time is 5:00 PM in the band room…wear blue and gold Henry Clay colored attire. We will be working on getting all new members the official HC Band Shirt but will need time to organize.
National Anthem apx 5:45 PM
Game begins at 6:00 PM (earlier than normal)….should conclude around 8:30-9 PM…students should communicate for rides when we tell them in the 4th quarter.
The Marching Band WILL perform a halftime show!
*Reminder: any time “Marching Band” is listed it means everyone (ALL woodwinds, brass, and percussion including pit & battery, and color guard).
Marching Band students should be wearing Blue Devil Band Shirt, solid black shorts, socks/athletic shoes.
Mon. August 20th
Regular school day
MB Sectionals 3:45-5:00 PM
Dr. Tim Leadership Seminar at Lafayette 6:00-8:30 PM. Interested students should submit $20 to me by Fri. August 17th.
Reminder, all forms (Medical, Media, Transportation, etc.) are due as soon as possible and will be collected beginning the first day of school. All HC BandProgram Expense Forms and Agreements with payments are due by Sept. 1. Families may opt to use the payment schedule on the back of the form. Students needing assistance must provide the official FCPS fee waiver form.
All band schedule events are listed on the online calendar at www.henryclayband.org under the calendar link. Any time “ALL Band Students” is listed on the calendar, it is referring to marching and non-marching students (anyone in the program). Please be sure you are coordinating your family and band schedules and communicate regularly with me at email@example.com
