Welcome Back! Important Reminders and Announcements- Please Read!

Dear Band Family,  Welcome Back!  I hope everyone had a great summer!  We have just a couple short days before beginning our 2018 Henry Clay Marching Band season!

Please make note and read all reminders/announcements and click link below for the “Band Camp 2018” document (especially the information for new families).

Band Camp 2018


  1. Commitment and attendance are the keys to success.  Students are required to attend all rehearsals and performances as we submit grades for an advanced credit.  Other than an emergency situation, absences are considered unexcused.  Unexcused absences include vacation, work, unnecessary appointments, summer school, etc.  Remember, it is impossible for a student to be successful in show rehearsal if there are holes in the drill around them or missing musical parts.
  1. All new band students will attendFreshman Orientationtogether on the morning of Wednesday, August 8th so we don’t have students missing valuable morning rehearsals all of the last week of camp.  Remember, we perform a portion of our show for the first time for parents and public on Fri. August 10th.  Members of the academy may attend their orientation, but should choose either academy orientation or freshman orientation since there is similar information concerning acclimation to the school environment.  MB students will be more prepared than non band members due to the time already spent in the building during camp.
  1. NEW PARENTS:  Before the meeting at6 PMin the theater this Sunday 7/22, there will be veteran band parents in the lobby so you may feel free to ask any questions you may have.
  1. We will collect all remaining paperwork (especially the physical form, medical, etc.) in the lobbythis Sundaybefore the meeting at 6 PM in the theater.
  1. NEW Marching Band Members:  We need to beginmeasuring/fittingall new marchers (except color guard already ordered) at 5:00 PM and will finish after the meeting during dinner. Please meet in the band room.
  1. Please remember that ALL deposits for marching band are non refundable. After our camp day at the end of school this past June, we hired staff, planned for and ordered uniforms, and our drill writer began designing the show.  Any change afterJune 2ndcauses our drill writer to have to go back into the drill to rewrite and make changes. The deposit has been allocated already for all of the necessary components to create the show.

2018 Marching Band and Color Guard Camp Schedule

* Lunch Breaks each day where applicable: Noon – 1 p.m., Supper: 5:00-6:30 p.m. during 1st week.*

Sunday, July 22

4:00 PM  Marching Band Leadership meeting in the band room

5:00 PM  Begin measuring all new marching band members for a uniform (except guard members…order has already been placed).  If we do not finish measuring all new members before the full meeting at 6:00in the theater, we will continue measuring and fitting after the meeting during dinner.

6:00 PM  Mandatory Pre-Camp Meeting in HC Theater.  All Marching Students and at least one parent must attend.

July 23 – 27 (Week 1)

Marching Band Camp All Winds, Percussion & Color Guard: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

July 30 – August 3 (Week 2)

Marching Band Camp All Winds, Percussion & Color Guard: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

August 6 – 10 (Week 3)

Marching Band Camp All Winds, Percussion & Color Guard: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Wednesday, August 8

All NEW marching members attend the same Freshman Orientation in the morning and return to camp after lunch.

Friday, August 10

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Family Potluck and Show Preview.  9:00 – 11:30 p.m. Pool Party

August 13, 14 & 16

Full Marching Band Rehearsal: Mon. & Tues: 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thurs: 3:45 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.

Friday, August 17

Home Football Game-  All band members (marching and non-marching) perform

Marching Band will normally rehearse after school 3-4 days per week. MB will also perform at all home football games and all day Saturday MB contests. There will be MB rehearsals during Fall Break and on some other days when school is not in session. This schedule is listed on the band calendar at www.henryclayband.org

Please don’t forget to read the attached document complete with reminders on water coolers, sunscreen, proper attire, eating schedule, attendance, etc.
