Farewell to the 2017 HCMB

Dear Band Family, I hope all had a chance to recover yesterday 🙂 Well, it was truly a bittersweet weekend that featured a wide range of emotions for our band family. The HCMB had a strong finish to the season with an exciting performance in the cold finishing 6th in class 5A at the KMEA state marching band championship, our highest 5A finish in school history. While we were disappointed we weren’t selected for the evening final 4 bands, we narrowly missed the opportunity and were all very close in a wonderful competition with our friends from Ryle HS and PLD HS.

I was very impressed with the character, professionalism, and spirit our band family showed as we recognized the accomplishments of our own season, but also supported all of the other schools in the championship. Our family is strong and it starts with how we treat others! I read a comment on social media from someone I don’t know personally about how someone in the Henry Clay band family gave his whole family their tickets to finals as they were entering and his children had an unbelievable experience especially his son, who had never seen a contest before! This is just one of the many examples of overwhelming kindness shown by our family!

I am very proud of the students for their work ethic and their level of care for one another throughout the season! They showed tremendous heart and character week in and week out and never wavered in their approach to the process. This is a remarkable group that I will always remember. They have a special place in our history and culture through the years!

A HUGE thank you to our parents for your work in making the machine run! There are too many parents to name individually, but a successful season isn’t possible without uniform moms, pit crew, hospitality, chaperones, fundraising, a fan base support group, etc. It was an honor working with you and your children.

To the staff, I pass along my heart felt thanks as well. We have a tremendous group of teachers who are even better people and it is a joy to work with them every day!

We have an exciting well balanced program that has many great events coming up! Please stay active and involved in our upcoming concert, percussion, and jazz performance seasons. Our kids will continue to develop in the experience and perform all kinds of wonderful music! Looking forward to seeing you at our performances!

Thanks to all for your support all season! We really appreciate your time, effort, and relentless energy!

One more time…Roll Blue Band!

Sincerely,  Bill Kite  Director of Bands  Henry Clay High School
