Dear Band Family, We certainly had an exciting day on Saturday at the Bands of America Dayton Regional Championship! To recap the events of the day, the students performed brilliantly finishing 1st in class 3A and winning outstanding music in the class! The HCMB was named a BOA Regional Finalist finishing 5th overall behind the past 2 national champions. After searching extensively through HC Band history, this is the best national finish for the Henry Clay Band in school history in the current format! Congratulations to all of our students and parents for the tremendous work in the process to produce this wonderful production on and off the field! The staff and I are super proud of the effort and are excited to see the buzz this band family is creating both locally and nationally!
Unfortunately, bad weather arrived and the evening final was cancelled by BOA officials as a safety and precautionary measure. To communicate the flow and process at the end of the day, finals was cancelled around 6:30 PM and I made the decision to bring the band back to Lexington based upon a variety of factors. It is very difficult to spontaneously move an organization of 110+ members without careful planning and preparation. We were not able to go to the YMCA for a few hours and I didn’t feel that waiting or moving without a plan were options. I also carefully considered the fact that we would arrive home earlier than most competition days and the students and parents would get some much needed rest as we enter the final 3 weeks of the season. The schedule only increases in intensity from this point forward. I certainly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused individual band family members. I appreciate everyone’s flexibility and understanding in a situation beyond our control.
Having said that, Mr. Bayerle and I are very proud of the students and are still looking for ways we can spend time together as a band to celebrate and enjoy our last moments in the season together…so stay tuned for upcoming communication!
We enter the final stretch of the season and are headed to a big KMEA show this Saturday at Tates Creek HS! Please note the schedule for the week below:
