Dear HC Band Family,
Welcome to the Henry Clay Band Program and the start of a great new year! We are excited to see everyone tomorrow for the first day of school!
Just a few quick reminders and some info to get you started for the new band year:
1.) Anyone interested in participating in the HC Jazz Bands should report to the band room during zero hour at 7:30 AM tomorrow morning! We will discuss jazz program procedures, hand out the syllabus, discuss placement and auditions, and distribute audition music.
2.) We will NOT need instruments in any of the band classes for tomorrow, but will need instruments and will play every day from the 2nd day of school through graduation 🙂
3.) Anyone who is in the 4th period Advanced Band/Theory class (also called Wind Ensemble) will take 3rd lunch regardless of what it says on the schedule. Students who have 3rd lunch are free to eat in the band room if they bring a lunch as long as they clean up trash, etc., afterward.
4.) Please be sure to submit all student information forms, medical, media, permission forms, etc. as soon as possible this week. Band Expenses for each class should be paid as soon as you are able and are due by August 31st.
5.) We have an excellent leadership clinic opportunity open to any interested band student led by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, who is one of the leading leadership and motivational speakers in the field of education and music. The clinic will be held at Lafayette HS in the evening on Monday, August 22nd. Any interested band student should sign up with me and submit $20 to reserve a spot at the clinic. Please sign up by Friday, August 19th. The HC Band Boosters help pay for the rest of the individual student cost beyond $20.
HC Band Expectations
I wanted to briefly list some of the basic HC Band expectations for all members of our band family each year.
- All rehearsals and performances as printed on our online band calendar found at henryclayband.org are mandatory for participation in the band program. If a rare emergency arises, the band directors must be notified by the parent/guardian. Communication is the key!
- All students will act professionally and responsibly as we are the largest organization at Henry Clay HS with many functions, events, and activities and to ensure proper order and smooth operation, we will follow all HC school rules in addition to HC band rules and regulations.
- All students will be prepared for each rehearsal and performance through diligent practice and other necessary preparations.
- All families will commit to the program financially, physically, and emotionally with regards to submitting fees on time and participating in fundraising to keep cost low, and in support of the students in their numerous performances throughout the year.
We are looking forward to one of the strongest years yet for the HC Band!
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions!
