Ryle Recap and Bands of America Dayton this week!

Dear Band Family,

What a weekend at Ryle!  To recap events at Ryle on Saturday, the band earned a spot in the evening finals after a prelim show that lacked some energy but has improved steadily over time.  The students channeled their energy and focus and performed the best show of the year by far in finals and increased their score under the cap to 66.75.  In the end, HC actually tied Tates Creek HS in final score, but the music scores broke the tie eventually landing the band in 7th place overall among the state and region’s best marching bands.  The crowd was electric and students are starting to understand the endurance required to perform at a high level!  The staff and I were very pleased with the effort of the band and are excited to see what the future holds for the group!

Having said that, we have a HUGE week in front of us with the most competition of our year at the Bands of America Regional Championship in Dayton, OH this Sat. Oct. 3rd!  Instead of competing against the state’s best, we enter into competition with that nation’s best marching bands and we will need to be at our absolute best this week to prepare!

Jordan Lalama and Ralph Stewart, part of our design team, are in town to help us improve and change the face of the show dramatically to give us our final push over the last month of the season!  We will change the end of the show starting today and layer in choreography to increase our overall effectiveness!

Please note the schedule below and details to prepare for the weekend.  I have attached the itinerary again that I sent out a while back for your review.

Students should bring lunch

3:30-6:30 PM
Students should go home, shower, pack 1 small bag, sleeping bag or pad, pillow, blanket (no air mattresses please, except for chaperones due to the space for packing under the buses)

6:30 PM
Load luggage onto buses

7:00 PM
Meeting in band room for ALL students…please be on time

Please see the itinerary for the rest of the details regarding travel to Dayton on Fri. Oct. 2 and the Saturday Oct. 3rd schedule.

Parents, please remember this is a national competition with different rules regarding the audience and band performance.  NO video recording is allowed in the stands.  Also please reference the BOA website for ticket info and note the increased ticket prices compared to state competitions.  Also, note the late approximate arrival time back at HC should the band be selected for the regional championship finals.

Thanks to all for your work and support of the band program!  It takes hours of time and energy from many parents, each and every student, and the staff to make the program run!  The band’s success is a credit to each and every one of you!
