Dear Henry Clay Band families, Thank you for your continued support of Bingo. By everyone doing their part, it lessens the work for all of us.

It’s time to fill out our Spring roster. I’ve asked Seniors to pick one Saturday; everyone else needs to cover two shifts. (Reminder to those of you who worked New Year’s Eve: you do not need to sign up for a shift this Spring.) The time frame is Mar. 3 – May 26.

Bingo hours may be counted as community service hours but the students need to plan for that NOW. We cannot use and do not need 40 students showing up the last 2 weeks of May, trying to get their hours in. I received several desperate e-mails last May and unfortunately, there were not slots available. If the student has a sheet that needs to be signed, it can be brought the night they volunteer and the supervisor will sign it.

Please select your Saturday(s) only after consulting the Henry Clay band and school calendars and your family calendar. There are a lot of activities in the spring that might cause conflicts. There are a few items listed below that you might want to take into consideration. The sign-up sheet will go up in the band room tomorrow. After this Saturday, we start the new session, so we need people beginning the week after this one. As always, parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate.

Mar. 3 – possible HC basketball game; Mar. 10 – All-District Jazz Band Weekend; Mar. 17 – Disney weekend with orchestra;

Mar. 31 – first Sat. of Spring Break; Apr. 7 – 2nd Sat. of Spring Break, Easter weekend; Apr. 21 – Prom

Apr. 28 – KMEA District Concert Band Festival – all students should be back in time

May 5 – Drum Line training noon-5:00 p.m., Derby May 12 – Senior cook-out

May 19 – KMEA Jazz Festival at Henry Clay

HC Band INFO & Calendar Reminders

Dear HC Band Family, I hope everyone is enjoying President’s Day! I wanted to pass along a few reminders for everyone while I have a minute before a very busy stretch hits for the HC Band.

First, congratulations to all who participated in Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday at Lexington Catholic High School! We were represented very well through approximately 35 events and all students in our program scored distinguished or proficient ratings with the majority in the distinguished category! Individual results will be released to individual students and ensembles tomorrow during band classes.

Also, congratulations to James Piper, Ginny Smith, and Andrew Osborn on an outstanding performance with the UK Honor Band yesterday at the Singletary Center! This was truly one of the finest honor bands I have heard.

We have an exciting semester plan through April and May as well! Mr. Bayerle has secured composer, arranger, and conductor, Brant Karrick to come in to work with the concert band on Friday evening, April 13th. The CB will be performing Songs of Old Kentucky by Mr. Karrick at District Concert Band Festival in late April.

Attn: Disney Participants Revised Rehearsal Schedule

Dear Disney Participants, I have made a change to the Disney rehearsal schedule to get another rehearsal in with the orchestra and will take away the one earlier that week.

We are CANCELLING the rehearsal on Monday, March 5 and ADDING a rehearsal on Thursday, March 8 from 3:45-5:30 PM with the orchestra.

After school Percussion Rehearsal with Guest Artist, Brian Mason

Dear Percussion Families, Justin has been able to secure an outstanding guest artist, Brian Mason for our annual Percussion/Jazz Extravaganza in late March.

Mr. Mason has requested to rehearse with the 1st and 3rd period percussion classes after school on Friday, March 23 from 4:00-6:00 PM. This is a mandatory rehearsal for all percussion students. Please make note of it on your calendars. This will be a great experience with a nationally known guest artist!

Colleagues: The United States Army Field Band and Soldier’s Chorus will be presenting a Free Concert at the UK Singletary Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, February 29, 7:30 p.m. Although this is a free concert, tickets are required and can be obtained by contacting the SCFA Ticket Office at UK. We may have a regional basketball tournament game with one of the 3 pep bands, but it may be worth reserving a free ticket through Singletary Center if you are interested.

Also, Solo and Ensemble Festival is this Saturday, Feb. 18 at Lexington Catholic High School. Students performance times have been hanging in various locations in the band room for a couple of weeks. Unlike the middle school band experience, the high school students must be very self motivated to practice on their own with all of the other activities going on currently.

Please be sure your child is prepared as they are representing themselves and the Henry Clay Band Program. All students must have original parts/scores with the measures numbered for the judges to receive a rating.

Good luck to all on Saturday! I will be there until approximately 11:00 AM and then have to trade roles with my wife, who needs to be there in the afternoon.

Dear Band Family, First I want to congratulate all of the All State students on a remarkable week last week and some outstanding concerts on Friday and Saturday! The All State Bands continue to amaze me year in and year out and I appreciate the hard work, professionalism, and behavior of our students at the annual KMEA conference. I certainly hope it was an enjoyable experience for all!

Please continue to stay current on the band calendar for this spring online as we are entering a busy stretch that will carry us to the end of the year. I received the following information concerning district basketball games just a couple of hours ago:

Below is the schedule for the district basketball tournament at HC:

Tuesday, February 21^st6:00 (girls) HC vs Scott County

Wednesday, February 22^nd8:00 (boys) HC vs Bryan Station

Friday, February 24^th6:00 (girls) 8:00 (boys)

Mr. Bayerle will release Pep Band assignments tomorrow. Pep Band A will play Tuesday and Pep Band B will play Wednesday next week. We will continue the rotation on Friday and into the Regional and State Tournament rounds. Every student is required to participate in pep band as one of our duties is to support the school community at the home football games and tournament basketball games.

Also, I still need a few parents to help us run the All-District Audition Jazz audition next Thursday evening Feb. 23rd. If you could be here around 5:00 PM that would be a tremendous help.

Currently, I have the following volunteers and need roughly 6 more: Russell Edwards, Kathy Edwards, Tom Bensberg, Angie Parrish, Bill Smith, Debbie Varble
