HC Band Final Exams

Dear Band Family,  Just a reminder that students have had all band final exam assignments for quite a while thanks to Mr. Bayerle’s effort.  Please be sure students are working on these assignments over the next week or so as all Band Final Exams are due by the end of the scheduled class exam time based upon the school final exam schedule below.

In many cases, students must submit a recording and paper to us.  We prefer recordings be sent either through Charms or electronically, but we will accept other methods as well.  For those who need to record at school, Mr. Bayerle has had a sign up schedule on his door for weeks that currently has one student listed on it.  Please be responsible and do NOT wait until the last minute as times are based on “first come first serve” as students sign up.  In addition, please submit papers to us electronically whenever possible.

If seniors wish to use final exam exemptions, we MUST have those by next Thursday, May 17.

Percussion Lesson openings with Greg Strouse

Dear percussion families,  Please see below information from former HC percussion instructor Greg Strouse.  Great LESSON opportunities!

I anticipate 3 to 4 lesson/coaching openings as we approach the late spring and summer——Thanks for your support!—–See below…..

Greetings to all Band/Music Directors !  If you have a motivated percussionist who would benefit from private lessons/individual coaching, I would appreciate you forwarding this e-mail and/or my contact information to the student and their parents—-I work with all ages and experience levels in my private studio and my primary objective in teaching (for over 25 years) is to develop the total and well-rounded musician/percussionist.

I typically do regular lessons in a half hour or one hour format—-Summer Intensive Sessions and SKYPE lessons are also available.

Strouse Percussion Studio Features: —Lessons are designed to develop the total percussionist (snare, mallets, timpani, world percussion, accessory percussion, drumset, etc) and the total musician (I use MENC standards).

—Music theory and reading skills are emphasized.—-We do rhythmic and/or melodic sight-reading in every lesson.

—To enhance their performance in your band/music class, I assist the student with concert music, ensemble music, scales, band book assignments, tests, quizzes, etc.

—All students have a resource notebook with lesson assignments, goals, exercises, study worksheets, etc.—-I also use a variety of method books with CD play-alongs to enhance learning.

—I have two of almost all percussion instruments and I teach side-by-side so students can model the skills and techniques—-My studio is equipped with multiple drumsets, snare drums, mallet percussion (including a 5 octave Mallet-Kat), timpani, hand drums, marching percussion pads (multi-tenor, bass, and snare), accessory instruments (crash cymbals, triangles, tambourines, woodblocks, suspended cymbals, etc.), electronic percussion (drumsets, Handsonic, etc.), world percussion, etc.

—My studio is also equipped with multiple microphones, mixing board, etc. for audio recording of the lesson—-I use a Superscope CD recorder and the student can leave the lesson with a CD in hand to assist with home practice.

—I can also video record new/complex material and e-mail it to the student/parent.

—Students have access to my percussion DVD/Video library and may check these out for home use.

—I send a periodic mini-E-newsletter to my students and families with practice tips, percussion resources, and information on music/percussion events in the area.

—Parents are always welcome to any or all lessons—–I have space for them to sit-in if they want to observe the lesson.

Again, I would appreciate you passing on my contact information (below) to any interested students/parents—-If you have questions, please contact me.

Thanks!  Greg  Strouse, M.A.Ed.  859-273-8722 (phone)  859-273-4798 (fax)

Spring Finals

Dear Henry Clay Band Family, I hope everyone is enjoying the start to Spring. Yesterday, I handed out the Final information for Concert Band and Percussion. I wanted to ensure that the kids had plenty of time to prepare and complete this. Each class has a playing and written portion to the final. Please see below for a quick summary of the final. Again, they received the detailed assignments yesterday.

Percussion: Live playing test during Final Time.

Concert Band: Recorded playing test due by 3:00 PM on Monday May 21st.

Written Part: The Students need to write a 3-4 page (typed) paper about three of the professional musicians on thier instrument. They have been given a list of names. They have also recieved a guide of what to write about. This is due to me electronically by 3:00 PM Monday May 21st.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,   Jeff Bayerle  jeffrey.bayerle@fayette.kyschools.us

Please continue to stay up to date on the calendar as this is a very busy week with our Area Concert on Thursday.  I will have an itinerary out tomorrow.

Please attend our Booster Meeting tonight at 7:00 PM in the band room to learn of upcoming opportunities for your child!
