DCI reminder, take 2

For anyone, that includes incoming freshman, who would like to go to Louisville on Sunday, June 17, to see the DCI tour, please join us. With 20 or more people, tickets are only $21. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. We can car pool or for those of you that would prefer to, your family can go by itself (I will have the tickets ahead of time to pass out). I plan to place the ticket order on Tuesday. You can throw your check in the mail today (Sandra Palmer, 4316 Brookridge Dr., Lex., 40515); if you do, please send me a note so I’ll know to look for it. I’ll also be at bingo tonight. The more the merrier!

This event is not sponsored by Henry Clay or the band boosters; it’s just a group of people getting together who can’t get enough marching band.

DCI show in Louisville

Several Henry Clay Band members and parents are planning to attend the Drum Corps International (DCI) Show at Papa John’s Stadium in Louisville at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 17th.

This activity is not sponsored by or affiliated in any way with the Henry Clay Band or Band Boosters or Fayette County Schools

Tickets are normally $25 but a group rate of $21 is available.  Sandra Palmer has agreed to place an order to obtain the group rate price.

If you would like to order one or more tickets, she will be available to collect the money on Friday, May25, at Henry Clay at 1:45 p.m. or checks can be mailed to her  at 4316 Brookridge Dr., Lexington., 40515.

Any band member or band family member can order tickets . The ticket order will be placed on Tuesday, May 29th. She will not order a ticket for someone unless she has received their money.

We are also trying o arrange car pools.  If you can drive, please let Sandra (slhpalmer@insightbb.com) know and how many passengers you can take.  (Departure about 4:30 p.m.,  back by about 11:30 p.m.)

2012 HCMB Drum Major Results

Dear Band Family,  After a long and rigorous audition, we have completed the drum major selection process.

Congratulations to Rachel Whitehead and Valerie Varble on being selected as the drum majors for the 2012 HC Marching Band!

There are many gifted student leaders in our program and we are looking forward to an outstanding 2012 marching band season!

Please congratulate Rachel and Valerie on outstanding auditions and interviews in addition to all of the other strong candidates.

Drum Major Training TIMES

Dear Band Family,  Please note the following for HC Marching Band Drum Major Candidates.  I apologize for the confusion, I misunderstood our Drum Major instructor’s schedule.

All Drum Major Training Sessions will be from 5:00-6:30 PM and the AUDITION will start at 4:00 PM on 4/30.

Please see the final DM schedule below:

Drum Major Training Session I:  Tomorrow (Thurs.) 5:00-6:30 PM
Drum Major Training Session II:  Friday, April 20 5:00-6:30 PM
Drum Major Training Session III:  Wednesday, April 25 5:00-6:30 PM

Dear HC Band Family,  I hope all had a restful and enjoyable spring break! We are entering our busiest stretch of the year and wanted to send a few reminders.

Please stay up-to-date with the online calendar as there are events occurring each day for the next 2 months.

Schedule for the week

HC Band Placement Auditions will be held this week during band classes.
Today 4/9:  MB Meeting (for all returning/prospective members) 3:30 PM in band room
Tues. 4/10:  WE Rehearsal 4-6 PM
Wed. 4/11:  Steel Band Rehearsal 3:45-5:30 PM
Thurs. 4/12:  Drum Major Training Session 4:00-5:30 PM **Note time change (All DM sessions will begin at 4:00 PM instead of 5:00 PM)
Fri. 4/13:  CB Rehearsal 4:00-8:00 PM with composer of Songs of Old Kentucky, Brant Karrick

Professor George Boulden, UK, will be in next Tues. 4/17 to rehearse WE- 4:00-6:00 PM

The HC Band Area Concert is next Thursday, April 19 at 7:00 PM in HC Gym featuring Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, EJ Hayes Band, Morton Band.

Please note drum line/color guard training session times and dates.

Calendar Changes

Dear Band Family,  Please note the below online calendar changes:

1.)  There will be a short Marching Band Meeting (for all current and prospective members) the day we get back from spring break on Monday, April 9th at 3:30 PM in the band room.  We will discuss the show and ideas for the future.

2.)  The Leadership Interviews will be held on Wed. May 2 (starting at 3:30 PM). This change is due to a middle school band concert on the evening of Tuesday, May 1st.  Times will be assigned after all applications for leadership positions have been received on Friday, April 27th.  See Mr. Bayerle or me for an application.

Percussion/Jazz Itinerary and Band Award Voting

Dear HC Band Family, See link below for the Percussion/Jazz Extravaganza Itinerary for your review.  The concert is next Tuesday, March 27 at 7:00 PM in Lassiter Theater.  Call Time is 4:30 PM and dress is professional ALL BLACK.  This concert will feature Dr. Brian Mason with both percussion ensembles and the EJ Hayes Middle School Jazz Band under the direction of Ms. Lois Wiggins.  Please come out to support Steel Bands, Lab Band, Jazz Ensemble, and 1st-3rd Percussion Ensembles!  Should be a great show!

Also over the next 2 days, we will be voting on annual HC Band Awards to be presented at the Banquet on Monday, May 14.  For color guard members in the marching band not in regular classes, please come by the band room to vote!

Thanks to all!  Please stay up to date on the calendar!  We will need plenty of parent volunteers to help with the Band Banquet and Pops Concert!

Help Needed 2/23 and Spring Calendar!

 Dear Band Family,  I am writing to ask for parent help on the night of Thursday, February 23rd.  I have taken on the task of organizing an All-District Jazz Ensemble for the first time in this region in 20 years.  I need 12 parent volunteers (prefereably whose children are not auditioning) to help me monitor and run the operation that evening.  The audition process will start around 5:00 PM.  If you are available to help, I would love to put down the first 12 folks to respond!  Thank you for your consideration!
