Bingo – Spring sign-up, Mar. 3-May 26

Dear Henry Clay Band families,  Thank you for your continued support of Bingo. By everyone doing their part, it lessens the work for all of us.

It’s time to fill out our Spring roster. I’ve asked Seniors to pick one Saturday; everyone else needs to cover two shifts. (Reminder to those of you who worked New Year’s Eve: you do not need to sign up for a shift this Spring.) The time frame is Mar. 3 – May 26.

Bingo hours may be counted as community service hours but the students need to plan for that NOW. We cannot use and do not need 40 students showing up the last 2 weeks of May, trying to get their hours in. I received several desperate e-mails last May and unfortunately, there were not slots available. If the student has a sheet that needs to be signed, it can be brought the night they volunteer and the supervisor will sign it.

Please select your Saturday(s) only after consulting the Henry Clay band and school calendars and your family calendar. There are a lot of activities in the spring that might cause conflicts. There are a few items listed below that you might want to take into consideration. The sign-up sheet will go up in the band room tomorrow. After this Saturday, we start the new session, so we need people beginning the week after this one. As always, parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate.

 Mar. 3 – possible HC basketball game;   Mar. 10 – All-District Jazz Band Weekend;  Mar. 17 – Disney weekend with orchestra;

Mar. 31 – first Sat. of Spring Break; Apr. 7 – 2nd Sat. of Spring Break, Easter weekend; Apr. 21 – Prom

Apr. 28 – KMEA District Concert Band Festival – all students should be back in time

 May 5 – Drum Line training noon-5:00 p.m., Derby   May 12 – Senior cook-out

May 19 – KMEA Jazz Festival at Henry Clay

Thanks for supporting the Henry Clay band!   Sincerely,  Sandra Palmer   slhpalmer@insightbb.com

Bingo – Feb. list and more

Dear parents and students,  It’s already Feb. and before we know it the end of the school year will be here. In addition to students graduating, we have some parents who will be “graduating.” As a result, we have some holes in our Bingo schedule, that we need some parents to fill. There are several opportunities to volunteer so we have something for everyone. Whichever position you select, we have plenty of time to get you trained and up-to-speed but we do need to start sooner rather than later.

We need one or, preferably, two Bingo callers. This person is at the front of the room calling the Bingo games. There’s a set formula, in regard to games, as to how the night is run. You lead the games in the order they are to be played. Because it is so busy at the beginning of the night, the Bingo Caller usually helps behind the counter for a little while.

We have 2 sets of adults behind the counter. First, there is what we call “The Paper Counter.” The supervisor and assistant work with our customers to sell them the computers and sheets off of which they will play Bingo. The supervisor is responsible for some reports and paying out some winnings. The assistant does whatever is needed to help the supervisor. Currently, our supervisor positions are all filled but we do have need for 2 assistants.

Our other counter is “The Pulltab Counter.” The Pulltab Supervisor is responsible for managing the Bingo session. He or she is responsible for coordinating pulltab sales for the evening. The supervisor assigns duties to the student and parent volunteers and helps the sellers stay motivated. The supervisor is responsible for paying out the winnings for the pulltabs, picking up the money at the bank before the session and making the deposit afterward. The assistant does whatever is needed to help the supervisor. We currently need one supervisor and one assistant.

Each of these positions is a once-a-month commitment (plus one extra Saturday throughout the year, to cover the months that have 5 Saturdays). For the assistant positions, you can share the position with a spouse or friend so you each only work 6 times. We have several couples who enjoy volunteering with their spouse. Volunteers are flexible and if you need to make a trade, we are able to work that out. During marching season, every effort is made to accommodate marchers’ parents so they can get to competitions they want to attend and we have been fortunate to have alumni who were willing to come back and help us out. This is a great opportunity to get to know the band students and to meet some parents, too.

If you are thinking about it and have questions or would like more information, please contact me, Sandra Palmer,  Sam Birch, who is in charge of Bingo (lsbirch@windstream.net) or Russell Edwards, one of our Pulltab Supervisors (tnvolgrad1@hotmail.com).

Remember that Bingo nights count as community service hours for your students. If they have a sheet that needs to be signed, they should bring it the night of Bingo. Encourage them to think about the number of hours they need. We don’t need every student to volunteer the last 2 Saturdays of the school year.

For some of you, it was months ago that you signed up for Bingo. As a reminder, the entire February list is below. Because Henry Clay’s boys’ basketball team is having a great year, it is possible that there might be some Saturday night conflicts with Pep Band. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Here’s the list:

Feb. 4: Kush Rathod, Caroline Baker, Valerie Varble, April Riddle (for Elise), Cassadi Cordea, Jenna Mattingly, Rachel Whitehead, Cameron Robinson, David & Kathy Ritter, Bram Dutch, Becky Dutch, Lynne Daviet, Shayna Clark, Celia Clark, Weston Whitten,

Feb. 11: Emily McLendon, Teresa McLendon, Tena Adams, Cassie Adams, Lily Cruz, Leina Cruz, Jhan Froukh, Brandon Cox, Valerie Varble, Elise Edwards, Cassadi Cordea, Kelsey Halbert, Grace Goulson, Evelynn Esquivel, Parker Back, Dario Casalis, Ana Castellanos

Feb. 18: Abby Brashear, Ashley Hunt, Kristine Grossman, Bangaly Savane, Nathan Bush, Andrew Osborn, Dorothy Page, Elizabeth Martin, Jacob Alcorn, Sofi Tzousnakis, Wes Grigsby, Elliot Mawby, Nate Hjorth, Mr. or Mrs. Hjorth, Eric Silver, Lauren Higgins, Matt Kelly, Timothy Kennedy

Feb. 25:  Abby Brashear, Jhan Froukh, Keane Salcido, Lily Cruz, Leina Cruz, Ashley Hunt, Kaylyn Torkelson, Lucy Wan, Austin Spickard, Jordan Carter, Erin Holbrook, Angela Tseng, Connor West, Evelynn Esquivel, Paris Crosby, Brendan Gochett, Isaiah Hickey

I know this was a long one but there was a lot to cover. Let me know if you have any questions.  Sincerely,  Sandra Palmer  slhpalmer@insightbb.com

Reminder of the Coffee Sale

Hello everyone,   Just a quick reminder to students and especially the parents that we are currently having our spirit coffee fundraiser going on now thru February 10. Please make sure your child has his/her orders ready to turn in along with the money on time, it makes it MUCH easier for me to send the orders in on time rather than having “straglers” after our sale is over.
Thanks so much and have a great day!  Stacey Hunt  dsmhunt@insightbb.com   859  948-2869

Bingo – last day to sign-up tomorrow (12/12)

Dear Band Families,  The most current list for Winter Bingo sign-ups is at the kink below. Thank you to those of you who have already signed up. There was a great response and as a result, we’re in pretty good shape for the next few months. For those of you who have not yet signed-up, there are still holes and we need you to pick a spot. The deadline for signing up is tomorrow. We’re asking every student to be responsible for 2 shifts; work with a parent and knock it out in one night! There are still available spots this Saturday (Dec. 17), Dec. 31, Jan. 14 and Feb. 18.

 Sincerely,  Sandra Palmer  slhpalmer@insightbb.com

Bingo Sign-ups – Thank You!! Revised

Revised:Dear Band Families,  Thank you to so many of you for signing-up for Bingo through e-mail and on the sheet that was up in the band room. Several dates are completely full. That’s great! For those of you who haven’t signed up (and for those of you that did, you can double-check it), see link below for the list so you can see where the holes are.

The deadline for signing up, via e-mail, for the winter session is by this coming Monday (12/12). It works so much better when you pick the date than when I assign it; that way, we know you will not have a calendar conflict. After that, for the students who are not on the list, I will pick dates.

We still need at least 4 for this weekend. Remember, if a parent and a student work on the same night, then it only takes one Saturday and that’s all we ask.

We still need several for this weekend and a lot more for Dec. 17 and 31. If you are looking for a good way to stretch your legs over the holiday break, this is a great way to do it. Please let me know if you’re available.

Thank you.  Sincerely,  Sandra Palmer  slhpalmer@insightbb.com
