Important Dates/Info

Dear HC Band Family,  I wanted to quickly touch base with you concerning some upcoming important dates and info.  Thanks to all who attended the Disney trip for a great performance, workshop, and weekend!  The professional Disney clinician came out to watch our performance which I was later told “never happens.”  He was very impressed by the band students and the level of concentration and playing ability.  He said that he was glad he could relax and enjoy the workshop because he knew the students were high caliber performers.  He also mentioned that he rarely has students sight read and record the sound track to Tarzan because it is one of their more difficult workshops and our students handled it well!

Reminder:  There is a VERY important band booster meeting this evening in the band room at 7:00 PM.  We will be discussing the budget, upcoming events, and positions for the future.  Parents, please attend to help continue this great experience for your child.

Please keep checking the online calendar at www.henryclayband.org  The next 2 weeks are busy preparing for our annual Percussion/Jazz Extravaganza on Tuesday, March 27.  We will be featuring Dr. Brian Mason, Morehead State University on that concert.  All perussionists must attend the rehearsal with Dr. Mason this Fri. 3/23.

Also, please be reminded about HC Band Auditions beginning Monday, April 9 the day we return from spring break.  This audition will be used for class placements for next year.  We also begin Drumline, Color Guard, and Drum Major training sessions for next year that week in addition to those interested in positions of leadership.

We begin rehearsing after school for district concert band festival during the week of April 9 with Concert Band and Wind Ensemble.  Each group is performing the highest level of literature and we need all students prepared for after school rehearsals with percussionists.  KMEA District Concert Band Festival is Saturday, April 28.

Booster Meeting Monday 7:00 p.m. 3/19

The next booster meeting will be Monday, March 19 at 7:00 pm in the band room.  There will be information that evening which will be of importance to all boosters.  The proposed budget for 2012-2013 will presented for discussion.  Officer nominations will also be presented that evening.

  We are still in need of nominees for the office of vice-president.  We strongly urge freshman and sophomore parents to step in and become involved in supporting the organization. The vice-president position is of great significance.  That position becomes president-elect for the following year.  John Alcorn and Dan Rardin will be co-presidents next year, and without a vice president there will be no one to take their place when their term is over.  Please consider serving in this role. 

  We are also still in need of counter workers for the bingo program.  There are positions which will be vacant at the end of May, and the program will not be able to function without volunteers in these positions.  The proposed budget for the next year depends on the bingo income.  Without that income, your students will not have the quality band program they currently enjoy.   

  Russell and I have thoroughly enjoyed our six years with the Henry Clay band program. Each year we have seen the change in leadership and volunteer positions which result as each class of senior parents leave the program.  Each year the booster parents have filled the needs before them.  Please continue the work of all the parents who have served before you in order to provide the best for our students.

HC Band INFO & Calendar Reminders

Dear HC Band Family,  I hope everyone is enjoying President’s Day!  I wanted to pass along a few reminders for everyone while I have a minute before a very busy stretch hits for the HC Band.

First, congratulations to all who participated in Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday at Lexington Catholic High School!  We were represented very well through approximately 35 events and all students in our program scored distinguished or proficient ratings with the majority in the distinguished category!  Individual results will be released to individual students and ensembles tomorrow during band classes.

Also, congratulations to James Piper, Ginny Smith, and Andrew Osborn on an outstanding performance with the UK Honor Band yesterday at the Singletary Center!  This was truly one of the finest honor bands I have heard.

We have an exciting semester plan through April and May as well!  Mr. Bayerle has secured composer, arranger, and conductor, Brant Karrick to come in to work with the concert band on Friday evening, April 13th.  The CB will be performing Songs of Old Kentucky by Mr. Karrick at District Concert Band Festival in late April.

Thanks to all for your continued support and enthusiasm!  Mr. Bayerle, Justin, and I are working to provide the HC band program with the best opportunities available so the students will have life long lasting experiences.

Get Your Kroger Card at the Booster Meeting Tuesday Night

I will have Kroger cards at the Booster meeting tomorrow/Tuesday night.
