Henry Clay Jazz Ensemble Information

Good Morning Jazz Band Families,

I hope all are well!  I wanted to quickly touch base with each family!  As most of you have heard by now, I am pleased to announce that the HC Jazz Ensemble was selected to perform at the 2011 Kentucky Music Educators Conference in Louisville this February!  They have set our performance time for Friday, February 11th at 12:50 PM in the Kentucky Convention Center in Cascade A-B room!  I’m very excited for the students to get this opportunity.  They will perform in front of thousands of music educators at all levels, professional musicians, college music majors, free lance professionals, conductors, etc.!!  The Cascade room is the biggest performance hall downstairs in the Convention Center next to the Exhibit Hall and we have a great time to perform!

Dr. Gordon Towell, professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at Morehead State University, has agreed to perform and work with us as our guest artist for the conference!  This will be a great experience for all!

Please be checking the online calendar at www.henryclayband.org for rehearsal/performance dates!

I’m also very excited about just recently arranging with Miles Osland a performance for our band at Comedy Off Broadway at Lexington Green to play a set and open the show for the DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra (DOJO) on the night of Monday, January 31st.  This performance will take the place of the KMEA Jazz Preview concert I had originally posted on the calendar for the next evening.

We are set up for a terrific year for the HC Jazz program!  I certainly hope to see you at our performances and look forward to working with your children!  The band is already off to a great start!

Sincerely,

Bill Kite

Thank You!!

Dear Band Families,

I wanted to send out a big THANK YOU to all who worked at the Stadium on Saturday!  We had over 100 students and over 50 parents, family members, and dedicated alumni helping on Saturday!  The turnout was amazing and consequently we finished installing 7,000 seats in under 5 hours!

A special thank you goes to our booster presidents, Kathy and Russell Edwards for their efforts in organizing the event and leading the boosters this year!  Their efforts made for 100% improvement from last year’s experience!

Alumni, you are amazing!!  The dedication and life long commitment you have shown is astounding!

I observed tremendous leadership and team work all afternoon and found myself amazed at the resolve and work ethic displayed by our organization!  Once again, I am proud to be a part of such an outstanding group of students and families!

Thanks also to those who covered the Bingo session Saturday evening and especially those who pulled “double duty” by working the stadium and then going directly to the Bingo Hall!

Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Bill Kite

Football Game Friday 8/27 – Info!

Dear Marching Band Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend!  I wanted to pass along information about the home football game this Friday 8/27.

Henry Clay HS is hosting the Football Frenzy Tournament featuring Fayette Co. schools and others on Friday night and Saturday.  There are 2 games on Friday night and 3 on Saturday.

The Henry Clay football team plays first on Friday night at 6:00 PM.  Call Time is 5:00 PM outside the band room.  All students will wear the Blue Devil Band Shirt, Black Shorts, and tennis shoes. The band will perform the National Anthem shortly before 6 and will support the team in the stands with some exciting Pep Band Music :-)   There will not be time enough for the band to march and play the halftime show, but the band will stay throughout the game.  We should have an early night with a 2nd game being played later that evening.  The early night will be perfect preparation for our Stadium Seat Fundraiser on Sat. 8/28 :-)

Note to parents:  Ticket prices will be increased due to 2 games being played that evening.  I believe they are $8 and $10.

We look forward to a great week of practice as we continue learning the show!  Also, don’t forget to note the rehearsal additions during the week of September 6th.

Thanks for your cooperation and support!  This should be a great season!

Sincerely,

Bill Kite

** TIME CHANGE FOR SEAT BACK INSTALLATION***

Dear Henry Clay Band Family,

The Seat Back Installation at Commonwealth Stadium has been changed to 12:00 (Noon) - COMPLETION on Saturday. We were just informed by the University of Kentucky that they have decided to use the field for practice from 8-12 and it is off limits to us at that time. Mr. Edwards will still be meeting a team at 6:30 AM to prep for the installation. Every one needs to meet at Gate 12.

I apologize for any inconvenience and we still require every member of the Henry Clay Band Program (Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and  Percussion) to be at Commonwealth Stadium this Saturday, August 28th from 12-COMPLETION.

Sincerely,
Jeff Bayerle
Assistant Director of Bands
Henry Clay High School
